The Day I Realized Why Online Business Is So Different to a 9-5

About 3 years ago, I had one of those 'aha' moments. It was one of those things that cause lots of parts of your life to fall into place.

At that time I've been alerting my money from various sources, ranging from playing online poker professionally to flipping houses for profit.

I had been doing that for about 5 years by then and previous to that I had been at my old employed job for the best part of 18 years.

So after leaving that 'secure' job, I had been my own boss for a while and it was very liberating.

However, with things like playing poker or buying and selling houses, the income was quite volatile.

You may have a large influx of cash into your account one month but then it had to last maybe 3 or 4 months with little or nothing coming in.

It could have been pretty stressful but the fact that I was my own boss, more than made up for that.

Then this epiphany that I mentioned occurred about 3 years ago.

The notoriously unpredictable housing market, coupled with the poker industry getting hit hard mean that income was sporadic and drastically decreed.

I knew I still wanted to be my own boss but opportunities were not easy to find. At least not the sort of opportunities that I was qualified for or felt confident they would result in success.

I remember thinking to myself that being employed had it's advantages.

You know there is money coming in each month and assuming it is just enough to pay the bills and put food on the table then you did not have too much to worry about.

You work those 5 days every week, sometimes 6 or 7, but at the end of each month somebody is definitely going to give you some money and you even know how much it will be.

You do not have to worry about the cost of building materials, where you can buy the best value kitchen units, will the house actually sell. I would not even have to worry about whether lady luck would smile on me and grant me the winnings that my play deserved at the poker tables. (If you know anything about poker you will appreciate it's a game of skill, not luck)

You do not have to concern yourself about running your business. Somebody else worries about all that. They just pay you your wages and you say thank you very much.

So there I was, actually thinking, for a while, that employment, working for a boss, was the best solution.

Then it hit me.

All the reasons I gave for employment being the right thing, were actually all the reasons why it is absolutely not.

You exchange your time every week, 5, 6 or 7 days, for an amount of money that somebody else decides. You have no say in that. They decide what those huge chunks of your life are worth and that is what they pay you.

IF that amount just happens to cover your bills and put food on the table, that is now your life.

You work to SURVIVE.

That is not a life.

Your existence is being dictated by the value that somebody else places on it.

There is also no hope of improvement.

What if you want more?

Better house, better car, holidays, time with children, more socializing with friends?

If you can not afford it based on what your boss pays you, what can you do about it?

Overtime? Get a second job?

How is that going to help? Even if you can get more money, it sucks even more of your time and your life from you.

The ONLY way, and I mean the ONLY way to have a chance of a serious income, with a job that gives you the freedom to enjoy it, is with an online business.

The start up costs are negligible and you can do it from anywhere you can get online.

You are your own boss, you control the hours you work and you decide how much effort you want to put in.

But the huge difference and the one that wave me that 'aha' moment is this ...

You have the ability to earn anything you want. Literally.

When you have your income dictated by a third party, what is happening is that your lifestyle, your standard of living and even your level of happiness, is being set for you.

When you make the decision to start an online business, you take control of all those things back. Which seems fair.

It is YOUR life after all.
