There's not a more exciting time in the year. It's the few days before the NFL season begins and you're already thinking about NFL parlay betting. But, is there anything you can do to increase your chances of being a big winner? Actually, yes there is.

It never fails. The first week of the NFL season arrives and I vent off to my favorite Vegas sportsbook to place my NFL wagers. Each week of the football season I'll bet at least one parlay card. And all through the season, I'll cash in winning tickets.

I think that being a big winner with football betting in the first week of the NFL season is a bit tricky. But over my years as a sports bettor, I've found some constants that can be used to put yourself in a much better position to win.

First, before making any NFL parlay bet, you should get familiar with the NFL lines. If you're not, that's a problem easily solved. Just head over to YouTube (I love that place) and type in "Wise Bettor." You'll be presented with at least a few sports betting videos to watch. Worth the time.

You need to understand that week 1 NFL lines are very beatable. Remember, football spreads are there for the public and are not predictions. The public always overestimates the value of preseason games-especially since they do not watch them. As a result, lines are often too small or too big.
