Will There Ever Be Casino Gambling in Toronto, Ontario?

Toronto is a city of more than 2.5 million people, many of whom like to go to casinos to try their luck at gambling. Yet, if they want to do so, they cannot do it in their own city. They have to take a 1-hour drive to either Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls or Casino Rama in Orillia. Either way, the residents of Toronto cannot do their gambling in their own backyards. Will that ever change? Will there ever be casino gambling in Toronto, Ontario, Canada? Maybe.

2009 is a municipal election year in Toronto. That means that the city will have a new mayor. One candidate for mayor is Giorgio Mammoliti. Mr. Mammoliti will be running on a platform based of creative fixes for city finances. The city is looking at a $400 million budget shortfall for 2010 and that simply cannot happen. So Giorgio Mammoliti is looking at other sources of revenue and a casino would bring in massive amounts of revenue. It is sure to be one of his mayoral election ideas.

Many people would love to have a casino in Toronto, not only for gambling purposes, but also for entertainment purposes because that type of venue would draw performers and entertainers to do shows; it could dramatically improve the nightlife in Toronto. Not only that, residents of the city would not have to make the 1.5 hour trek to get their fix out-of-town. If you would love to see a casino built in the city of Toronto, you just might get your wish in the near future.
