Fighting the Boredom – Poker Tips

Latest Casino News 29 Mar , 2019 0

Poker is like a good song. It's good, but if you listened to it for too long, it get's boring. And if you leave it for a while, later you are still going to enjoy it.

Boredom is a huge issue in poker, especially online poker, because in online poker you do not see people, you do not actually converse with them, so it's less fun. In real life game it's different, you can enjoy other people, listen to jokes, be friendly, you know. So I think poker boredom is an important enough issue to owe one post to it.

Being bored is like being on tilt actually. You do not play the best game you could and you know it. Instead you are just spending time trying to do things. If you are really bored you will try some approach you know is wrong and while on tilt, well, you will do anything. One more thing these two have in common - you probably will try higher stakes. When you are bored you will try to catch some adrenaline, if you are on tilt you are going to try and win big soon. Usually the result is catastrophic.

I do not know what the best strategy for dealing with boredom actually is, but I can tell you a few things I do and hope they are helpful.

Get out of there. If you are playing a game and are bored out of your mind, just leave. Believe me, it's better. Most of the time you will avoid losing your entire stack. If it's tournament you are playing, you can not leave but do not start another one, do not even play a cash table. If you think you have much too much time in between, just watch some movie or something. I've even read a book for a few times. It helps to get your mind off the boredom.

I for example always try to mix my game. And I'm not talking about changing stakes, I'm talking about different aspects of poker - there are so many in online poker world and you can always find someone to play with. Use my advice - try out something new.

If you are playing only heads up, try Sit 'n' Go. If you are playing Sit 'n' Go, try cash games or jackpot SnG. Maybe try Omaha for example - you could be better there than you know. Just mix them. When you've had enough fun with that, just return to your normal game, the one you feel comfortable in. Maybe you will even find something new and go there. Do not be afraid to try new things. Even changing the amount of players at the table can help fight boredom, because it changes the game quite a bit.

If you are bored of poker completely, just take a few days off. You will feel much better afterwards and more eager and ready to play. That's one of the keys to success.
