Poker can be considered the oldest and most popular American card game around the entire world. Although the origin of poker is unclear, one thing is certain, thousands of people play poker daily, either on-online or off-line. Poker started as one game but over the years the poker game has revolutionized in many different ways. Poker has gone through big and small changes. However, none of the changes can compare to what may be pokers biggest achievement, its merge with the internet. Now, there are dozens of poker versions to choose from. If you are a beginner poker player it may seem a bit overwhelming, but do not give up, poker is a fun game worth playing. This article will help you learn what you need to know before you start your first game of poker.

If you are going to play poker off-line, you will need a four-suit- fifty two-card deck. (Sometimes you will need to add or decrease the number of cards in a deck, depending on the style of poker you will be playing) If you are going to play online poker, you do not need to worry about this, since you will be provided with the deck you need according to the type of poker you are playing. Some of the most popular online poker games are Texas hold'em, five-card draw, seven-card stud, Razz, Omaha high, Chinese poker, crazy pineapple, deuce-to-seven, and double-flop Texas hold'em.

Now that you know some of the styles of poker, I am going to tell you the ten most important hands of poker, arranged from best to worst. (I am going to give you the mane and the numbers / letters that make the five-card poker hand.) Royal straight flush is when you have a ten, J, Q, K, and A. Straight flush is when you have five cards of the same suit like four, five, six, seven, and eight of hearts. Four of a kind is when you have four of the same cards like four, four, four, four, and eight. Full house is when you have a set of three cards plus a pair, like ten, ten, ten, three and three. Flush is when you have five cards of the same suit but not in order, like four, seven, eight, J, and K of spades. Straight is when you have five cards in but order that are not from the same suit, like three, four, five, six, and seven. Three of a kind is when you have three repetitive cards, like Q, Q, Q, J, and six. Two pair is when you have two pairs of cards of the same number / letter, like nine, nine, K, K and seven. One pair is when two cards are the same like Q, Q, K, J and seven. High card is when you have in your position the highest card; this only happens if none of the players have any of the mentioned hands.

The other thing you need to know as a beginner is how to place a bid. These means you need to know your bedding options, how to start a bid, the betting structure, and the terms of the bid.

Although there are many variations of poker, all the variations, more of less, fallow the same rule. Why? The objective of poker is to build the best five-card hand among all the other players. Can you spot the logic in this?
