The Santa Ynez Valley is a scenic river valley 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara, California. The valley is flanked by The Santa Ynez Mountains to the west and San Rafael Mountains to the east flank the valley. The valley is home to the beautiful Danish styled town of Solvang; Los Olivos with its charming storefronts and wine tasting; Buellton, which is a large commercial town; Santa Ynez, which is near the Chumash Casino Resort; and the small community of Ballard.

There are a variety of Santa Ynez hotels and other lodging options in the valley. Solvang is the largest city in the valley with a population of about 5,000 and has by far the most lodging options with over 700 guest rooms. Solvang is a popular tourist destination that attracts more than 1,000,000 visitors each year. However, there are also lodging options in the other valley communities.

Since it is a Danish themed village, most of the Solvang hotels comprise Danish style into their exterior architecture and room interiors. Solvang is a very walkable city with over 150 shops for gifts, apparel, arts and crafts, antiques and also bakeries, restaurants, and wine tasting rooms. The city also has four windmills, three parks, and historic landmarks.

Solvang is a great base from which to explore the valley and surrounding area. There are also more than 30 wineries within 10 miles of Solvang. Some of the most popular hotels include the Kronberg Inn, Hadsten House, Holiday Inn, and Hotel Corque.

There are also several bed and breakfasts in Solvang including the Mirabelle Inn, Meadowlark Inn, and Solvang Gardens-Boutique Country Inn. All of the major hotels in Solvang are within a few blocks of or on Mission Drive, the main street through the town.

The city of Santa Ynez hotels include the Edison Street Inn, Santa Ynez Inn, and Sanja Cota Motor Lodge. It is a more affordable option. But if you want more entertainment, stay at the Chumash Casino Resort, which is just south of Santa Ynez on Mission Drive. It is a four-star diamond rated hotel with more than 100 rooms and guest suites.

The Chumash Casino is a 24-hour gaming destination with tens of thousands of feet of casino space including hundreds of slots, a variety of table games, bingo, Keno, and a live poker room. It also has three restaurants and a gift shop. The Chumash joins also has a performing arts venue that attracts such big name performers as Sheryl Crow, Meat Loaf, and Penn & Teller. It also often mixed martial arts fights and boxing matches. Santa Ynez is only about a five minutes drive east of Solvang.

Buellton is along well-traveled Highway 101. As a result, there are numerous hotels there including Quality Inn, Days Inn, and Motel 6. Buellton is only a five minutes drive west of Solvang.

Los Olivos and Ballard are the two smallest communities in the valley. Los Olivos is a charming Victorian style small town that has a high concentration of wine tasting rooms. It has the Fess Parker Wine Country Inn & Spa, and Los Olivos Grand Hotel. Ballard is very small but does have the Ballard Inn & Restaurant.
